Upon completion of training, physicians must be able to perform according to 6 core competencies:

Skills in history-taking, physical examination, ordering and interpreting laboratory investigations for clinical decision-making, and performing necessary procedures
Accurate diagnosis and treatment of internal medicine conditions commonly encountered in Thailand
Complete and consistent medical record-keeping
Knowledge of disease prevention and health promotion

2. Medical Knowledge and Skills

Knowledge of basic medical sciences and holistic clinical internal medicine, aligned with community needs
Expertise in internal medicine skills and procedures

3. Practice-based Learning

Conducting quality medical/public health research that addresses national health issues
Self-directed learning and gaining experience through practice

4. Interpersonal and Communication Skills

Effectively presenting patient information and discussing clinical problems
Transferring knowledge to physicians, medical students, and healthcare personnel
Communicating accurately with patients/relatives, grounded in compassion and human dignity
Good interpersonal relationships, working with all levels of staff
Serving as a consultant to physicians and other personnel

5. Professionalism

Attitude, morality, and professional ethics that prioritize the benefit of fellow human beings above all

Understanding of appropriate use of health resources (Cost-Conscious Medicine)
